About

Praveena Venugopal is a multidisciplinary artist born in India, currently based in Chennai. She is a photographer, filmmaker and a writer with a degree in BSc. Visual Communication from M.O.P Vaishnav college for Women and Masters of Design in Photography from Glasgow School of Art, Scotland.

She understands that in a fast paced digital era, the best way to make an impact on readers is through the harmony of strong visual and written content.

Growing up around a father who photographed every little moment of her life, she held her first camera as a child. Little did she know she would grow up to become a storyteller.

She has exhibited photographs from her travel and portraiture collection. She is also passionate about social documentary - photo essays addressing issues of the marginalised communities. She has worked along with Scottish Trans Alliance and LGBT Youth Scotland to produce 'Beyond Gender' a photo essay project that highlights the voice of the local Transgender community in Scotland. This was well received and went on to be exhibited at the ‘Poetry Club’ (BBC Scotland), Reid Building (Glasgow School of Art). It was also published on Gaylaxy Magazine and a special podcast was dedicated to discussing the making of the project on ‘Keeping it Queer’ by IVM Podcasts.

She is also a freelance writer specialising in long format content like: SEO content writing: blogs, articles, lists, product website pages, interviews and short yet relevant content on social media. Her background in research helps her writing stand out.

She is an avid traveller and finds herself often backpacking around India, Nepal, Europe, UK, and USA. She has worked with Zostel (via plugout) as a filmmaker, documenting unexplored destinations across South India.
